Share the Love
Kids these days learn about love from a variety of sources, from Disney princesses to playground break-ups, there’s no shortage of misinformation. That’s why it’s important for us to teach them what God says about love. The Bible tells us that love is an action word, not the mushy Hollywood romance that we see in movies. Loving others isn’t about how you feel, it’s about what you do, and it doesn’t have to be something big either. Here’s a simple activity that you can do as a family that will help demonstrate what love is.
Put each family member’s name in a bowl then have everyone draw a name. Then help your kids plan a way to show love to that person this month. This could be something as simple as making a card or as big as baking them cookies. Make sure each person completes his or her act of love before the end of the month, then have a family dinner to celebrate it. Use this time to congratulate them on showing love to each other, and letting them celebrate whoever loved them. By doing these little acts of love for each other we teach our kids that love is something we can do everyday. When we love others not only are we being a part of God’s plan, but we’re also showing love to God. It’s just like Jesus said, all of the commands can be summed by this: Love God and Love Others.
